GOLDEN GLOBES GOES VEGAN

By now you've probably heard that his year's Golden Globes awards will be the first major program of its kind to go vegan.  They were planning to have fish, but found that couldn't fit their goal of environmental sustainability.

I can tell you for a fact that grass-finished beef would be far more sustainable than fish, but that's now beside the point.

What's really sad is that these clever and smart people have drunk the Kool-aid that assume plants are more environmentally sustainable than animals. In today's dystopian industrial factory farming, of course, nothing is sustainable, whether it's plants or animals.

The one thing that's nice about all the publicity surrounding this is that they aren't doing it for health.  So at least they're being honest about the fact that their health will probably suffer, but planetary health will increase.

The ones who consistently win at the awards ceremony, of course, will be the ones who eat enough animals to keep their brains functioning.  Funny that something that celebrates mental cleverness serves a meal that deprives the brain of its proper nutrition.  Go figure.  But hey, it's the Golden Globes; who expects anything reasonable out of this crowd?

So they're eating beets and carrots and mushrooms as if these plants could be divorced from a larger ecosystem that requires animals to be functional.  There is no animaless ecosystem.  None.  Plants need animals as much as animals need plants.  It's called symbiosis, but only if it's managed properly.

Therein lies the rub.  We haven't managed them symbiotically for a long time, and now those of us who do that and know how to do that are in such a minority that we can scarcely find a seat at the table to discuss the difference.  All these well-meaning dress-to-the-hilt millionaires will feel wonderful about doing good, when actually they're misdirected and encouraging a system that destroys the planet.

The weight and volume of animals on the planet were far more 500 years ago than they are today.  Digest that for a moment.  Growing annuals and mushrooms is not what stimulates water cycles and biomass development.  Nature's template requires primarily perennials, not annuals.  Until we get that through our heads, we won't get anything right.

Veganuary has signed up 500,000 adherents worldwide to go vegan during January.  They'll feel great by getting off junk meat for awhile.  But even junk meat contains B12 and several other nutrients required for good brain function.

Folks, this stuff is not just preference.  It's as harmful to our bodies and the planet as smoking and cocaine.  It offends me that Bernie and Elizabeth want to institute a system that will require me to care for all these physically and mentally collapsing vegans in 10 years.  This is the kind of weird stuff that happens culturally when you use the government's guns to make me be responsible for your decisions.

As Hollywood goes, so goes the nation.  Hang on for the ride.

Are you tired of veganism yet?
