HILDA'S HEALTH RECIPE
Sunday's Weston A. Price pop-up shindig here at Polyface created more memorable pieces of advice than you can imagine. Today I'll feature Hilda Gore's "5
secrets for ancestral living." Hilda is WAPF's publicist and runs their podcast. Some of this is direct quotes; all come from my notes.
1. SUN. Indigenous people didn't wear many clothes and they spent a lot of time outdoors--like three quarters. Today, we've inverted that. Take a sun break instead of a smoke break; let the sun hit your eyes for 20 minutes each morning. Sun rays activate the mitochondria in your cells.
2. SLEEP. Blue light from computer screens makes your body think it's a different time of day; turn off screens an hour or two before bedtime. Wear blue blockers. Long, stable sleep steadies your weight and also detoxifies your body.
3. SHIVERS. We've made ourselves far too comfortable. Expose yourself to the elements; challenge your body to work. Only 15 minutes of shivering is worth a 1 hour workout. It gets your lymphatic system working. Don't make your kids put on a coat; let them get cold for awhile. Embrace winter with a smile. Shivering builds endurance and resilience, making you feel like "I can do anything." Don't turn the heat on in your car.
4. SUSTENANCE. Eat nutrient dense; our culture celebrates quantity over quality; we're overfed and undernourished.. Only eat fast food if you want to die fast. Find your local farmers, your WAPF chapter, and eat better to change your satiation and satisfaction benchmarks.
5. SPIRIT. Love, compassion, forgiveness; there's more to this life than your body. Start your day with gratitude; write down 3 things you're grateful for. This helps you live in the now. Community is immunity; connect with friends.
After listening to her winsome and profound presentation, I couldn't help but think: wouldn't it be cool if American official reaction to Covid was this rather than vaccines and masks and never touching? The problem is nobody has tried this recipe. Perhaps because it's not for sale.
Which of these ingredients is hardest for you and which one is easiest?
