READING YOU CAN FARM

I don't know what you'll be doing between Christmas and New Year's, but I'll be holed up in a sound studio reading YOU CAN FARM.  Still by far and away my best selling book, this has definitely become a bit of a classic in the regenerative farming movement, for which I'm grateful.

I've only audio recorded two of my books in the past; they're the only two I didn't self-publish:  FOLKS, THIS AIN'T NORMAL and MARVELOUS PIGNESS OF PIGS. The reason is that audio recording is neither cheap nor easy.  The publisher paid for that work and handled the logistics.

An audio studio has reached out to me and wants to do this; all I have to do is read; they'll handle the rest.  and pay me to read it. So they're making it doable.  I've come to this kicking and screaming because I've never gotten into audio books, but I realize they're a big deal these days.  Along with podcasts, YouTube and everything else that's new since I grew up.

One of our stewards for 2020 lives in California and commutes 3 hours one way to work:  3 hours going, 3 hours coming home.  What does he do 6 hours in the car each day?  Listens to podcasts and audio books.  So I realize not everybody lives the charmed life I do, out here among the trees, birds, and beauty I wouldn't want to interrupt with earbuds.

But lots of people do things for periods of time that they WANT to be interrupted with something meaningful, so I get it; but it's just not what I'm used to. In deference to the rest of the world, then, I'm going to sit in a chair with headphones on for a week and read.  So all of you people out there who have been begging for more audio books, here you go.  You're welcome.  You'd better buy it or I won't do another.  ha!

This book is now more than 20 years old, can you believe it?  It'll be fun to go back over it--I haven't read it since writing it--and see how and what I wrote back when I was so young.  People routinely ask me if it's outdated--only people who haven't read it.  One of the wonderful things about truth is that it doesn't change.  So I have no concerns about it ever becoming dated; truth is truth in any age, any culture.

Do you listen to audio books?
