NONSENSE AS SCIENCE
Nonsense in the hand of a skilled comedian is hilarious. Nonsense in the hands of scientists is a travesty. I'm going to talk one more time about the anti-meat documentary GAMECHANGERS that I watched this past weekend at CrossFit headquarters in Santa Cruz, California.
Here are some highlights I wrote down as the film progressed:
*The brain only wants glucose so the only way to feed the brain is with carbohydrates.
*The reason humans can see colors is so that they can identify and find ripe berries and fruit.
*The best source of B12 is from supplements, not meat.
*All animals need supplemental B12.
*Drinking cow's milk decreases testosterone and increases estrogen.
*Soy products contain phyto-estrogens that look like estrogens but they actually reduce estrogens.
*The meat industry is the new cigarette industry.
*The easiest way to protect animals is not to put them in your mouth.
*One hamburger contains 2,400 liters of imbedded water.
Perhaps my favorite: humans don't have the long mouth and teeth of carnivores like lions and wolves, nor the claws, so we aren't supposed to rip and tear flesh. Well duh, we have a brain big enough to make tools and weapons so we can do the ripping and tearing from a distance. We don't need 2 inch incisors and claws; our brain compensates.
Of course, if these vegan-promoters have their way, many folks won't have the advantage of a functioning brain. DHA, the essential omega 3 fatty acid for brain development in fetuses and infants, is two-thirds LOWER in vegans. This is why Italy has outlawed vegan diets for children.
This movie, bankrolled by the fake meat industry, is not benign, just another option for people. It's an attack on intellectual development and health. And frankly, I'm offended that these same folks expect me to pick up the tab for the mental and physical trauma that will result if and when people believe the nonsense in the film.
This is not just "live and let live." It's not okay for my health care taxes to go into a pot co-mingled with people who real science indicates are hurting themselves. This is a real social justice issue. Could someone please tell me where the social justice is in requiring me to share the burden of fixing people who believe nonsense and harm themselves as a result? Where is the fairness in that?
Interestingly, these radical, militant vegans view me the same way, that it's unfair and unjust for them to pick up the tab for the harm my meat eating does. We haven't even gotten to planetary health. Goodness, if we go plants only, we'll destroy the ecology, the soil, the water cycle. A perennial prairie builds soil; soybeans or peas cannot be grown in the same place over and over without destroying the soil.
So here we are, two camps believing the other destroys themselves and the planet. How do you proceed without a war? I have an idea: get the government out of it. If the government were not involved AT ALL in health care, we'd each shoulder the burden of our own decisions. We'd have vegan insurance companies and carnivore insurance companies. Over time, as the actuary data built up, the direct cost and risk would be economically fair. If in fact veganism reduces health issues, that health care cost would be cheaper; good for them. Or if meat eating increased health care costs, then we'd have to pay more.
The most unfair policy in the world would lump these two warring factions together and tell them they're responsible for the other. That's social insanity, not social justice. And if there were no USDA, no subsidies (crop insurance), no protections and price manipulations in the marketplace, all food production would have to stand on its own two feet. And by the way nobody telling Americans what to eat. If the cost of diabetes were an actual cost and not tallied as increased gross domestic product economic activity, perhaps people would think twice about drinking three Cokes a day.
The quickest way to restore cultural harmony is to offer choice by getting government out of my mouth, my bedroom, my poop. It's the meddling that stirs the pot and makes us hate each other. I say live and let live, but it starts with not asking the government to meddle in somebody else's affairs.
Is it possible that humans can see colors so they can distinguish between black and red cows?
