GRASS FARMING KNOW-HOW

Are you interested in how to have a more ecologically and economically enriching grass farming experience?

Do you struggle with when to move cows, what kind of cows to keep or cull, and whether to add sheep or other enterprises?

My mentor Allan Nation used to say that information is one of the best investments anyone can ever make.  Thomas Jefferson said “knowledge is power.”  Where do you go to get cutting edge information?  If you’re a grass farmer, you go to books, magazines, mentors, schools, and anything hosted by The Stockman Grass Farmer.

Loyal Musings readers know I do very little commercial promotion on this blog, but occasionally I leverage my reach when I know you’d benefit from something you may not know about.  The 2022 SGF Gathering at Polyface comes on the heels of the 2021 shindig and my goodness, was it a wonderful time of learning and fellowship.

With a totally new cast this year, let me give you the line-up.  We’ll have Abram Bowerman, a young 24-year-old farmer in the Midwest who is bootstrapping a sheep operation, self-financed, and fully employed.  Steve Kenyon, farm business guru, who doesn’t really own land or cattle but successfully leaped into full-time farming more than a decade ago on rented land with custom-grazing agreements.  He’s a fantastic story teller and hilarious to boot.

Then we have Daniel Salatin (yes, my son) doing a presentation on low-stress animal handling techniques.  Every species is different, and he’ll address cattle, hogs, and poultry transport and movement.  I’ll do a presentation on landscape design.  Lots of people either buy a place or have a place and just don’t know where to start.  What do you do first, second, and third?  I’ll answer that.

Three of our urban patrons will talk about why they buy pastured meat and poultry.  We farmers are terrible at communicating in ways that our urban patrons find meaningful and attractive.  This session will drill down on messaging for the urban market.  Allen Williams is the guru of grass genetics and will discuss how to pick good animals.  He also always weaves in an agronomic component.  Finally, beloved alternative veterinarian Will Winter will talk about how to have healthy commercial livestock without pharmaceuticals.  Whatever your thorny or nagging animal wellness question, Will has an answer.

If you’re a commercial grass farmer or aspire to be, these outstanding best lineup presentations, plus all the fellowship time, will be one of the best investments you’ll ever make.  It’s coming up quick so register now.  No, don’t read any more emails.  Register for the Aug. 25-26 event by calling SGF at 1-800-748-9808 or by click HERE.  It ain’t cheap, but it’ll give you the best return on investment you’ll get from anything right now.  Thank you.

 Have you registered?  Ha!
